Dundee has transformed its waterfront, and several of its best-known attractions now sit close together between the railway station and the River Tay: RRS Discovery, the ship that carried Captain Scott to the Antarctic, V&A Dundee, Scotland's first design museum, and the open lawns of Slessor Gardens.
A little further into the city you will find The McManus art gallery and museum, Dundee Contemporary Arts with its cinema and galleries, and Verdant Works, a restored jute mill that tells the story of the industry that built nineteenth-century Dundee. HMS Unicorn, one of the oldest ships afloat, is moored in Victoria Dock, and Dundee Science Centre is a good choice with children or on a wet day.
For a view over the whole city and the Tay, climb Dundee Law. For sea air and a stroll along the front, head east to Broughty Ferry.
Opening times, admission charges and what is on all change, so check each attraction's own website before you set off.
