Explore Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and home to some of its finest galleries and museums. From Carnoustie it is a long day out, over two hours by train on average.

Getting there from The Station Hotel

From The Station Hotel, Carnoustie

  • Train Around 2 hr 15 on average ScotRail's average journey time to Glasgow Queen Street. Check whether your train is direct.

Journey times are approximate. Check current travel information before setting off. For train times, see ScotRail or National Rail.

Glasgow is a real journey from Carnoustie, so it suits a full day, or a night away as part of a longer trip, rather than an afternoon. The reward is a city with more free museums and galleries than you could see in a week.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, in the West End, is one of the most visited museums in Scotland. The Riverside Museum on the Clyde tells the story of transport, and The Burrell Collection sits in the parkland of Pollok Country Park. Glasgow Cathedral, a medieval building that survived the Reformation almost intact, stands at the top of the old town, and the Botanic Gardens and their glasshouses are a calm corner of the West End.

Trains arrive at Glasgow Queen Street, in the heart of the city.

Opening times, admission charges and what is on all change, so check each attraction's own website before you set off.
